Onverwachte landing van de familie Planckaerts (VTM) aan de voet van het Atomium. Bedankt voor dit sympathieke bezoek!

Pour nos lecteurs francophones : De Planckaerts est un reality show conçu dans l'esprit de ce qui avait déjà été fait pour les Pfaff et actuellement diffusé sur la chaîne publique flamande VTM. Les héros sont ici la tribu de l'ancien courreur cycliste Eddy Planckaerts qui s'est établie dans des cabanes rustiques au fond des bois ardennais (Lesterny).

Humour alternatif et orginalité sont au rendez-vous et font le succès de cette série. 

MSN, Skype, G-Talk, ICQ et bien d’autres sont aujourd’hui d’une incroyable banalité. Discuter via webcam fait presque partie des habitudes quotidiennes. Et si pas, plus personne ne s’étonne que cela existe. Dans certains pays technologiquement plus avancés, comme le Japon, voir son correspondant ou regarder la télé sur l’écran de son portable sont devenus monnaie courante. Encore quelques années de patience et nous, européens, goûteront aussi à tous ces délices.

Pas besoin d’être centenaire pour se rendre compte que ce genre de technologie faisait encore partie, jusqu’il y a peu, des choses qui nous faisaient rêver! Souvenez vous des cartoons des années 80’, de Goldorak au Capitaine Flam, en passant par Albator et G-Force : le chat video est partout.
Ainsi en allait-il également dans les années 50, à une époque où le téléphone à la maison était encore un produit de luxe ; nos grands-parents rêvaient de pouvoir communiquer à distance avec son et image.
Ils en rêvaient : on l’a fait!

Au Pavillon du Bonheur Provisoire, vous aurez l’occasion d’inscrire sur une plaquette ce qui fait battre votre coeur ainsi que vos espoirs pour le futur. L’ensemble de ces plaquettes sera enterré à Bruxelles pour être redécouvert dans 50 ans par nos (arrière)-petits-enfants. L’occasion pour eux de prolonger la réflexion menée aujourd’hui.

MSN, Skype, G-Talk, ICQ enzovoort zijn vandaag de gewoonste zaak van de wereld. Via een webcam converseren is bijna dagelijkse kost. Tenminste is niemand meer verbaasd dat het bestaat. In sommige technologisch vooruitstrevende landen zoals Japan, is het schering en inslag je gesprekspartner op het televisiescherm of op het schermpje van je GSM te zien. Nog enkele jaren geduld en dan kunnen ook wij – Europeanen – hiervan snoepen.
Je hoeft geen honderd jaar te zijn om te beseffen dat tot voor kort dit soort technologie tot het rijk der dromen behoorde ! Denk aan cartoons uit de jaren 80 : Goldorak en Capitaine Flam, Albator en G-Force : video chat is alomtegenwoordig.
Zo was het ook in de jaren 50 toen telefoon in huis nog een luxeproduct was. Onze grootouders droomden ervan op afstand te communiceren met geluid én beeld.
Zij droomden ervan en wij doen het!

En jij? Waar droom jij van?
In het Paviljoen van het Tijdelijke Geluk kan je op een plaatje noteren wat je hart sneller doet slaan, maar ook je dromen voor de toekomst ? Al die plaatjes worden in Brussel begraven om ze over vijftig jaar door onze (achter)kleinkinderen te laten ontdekken.
Voor hen dé gelegenheid om onze bezinning van vandaag over te doen.

Nowadays, MSN, Skype, G-Talk, ICQ and many others are incredibly commonplace. Talking by Webcam is almost part of our everyday lives. And even if it isn’t, no-one’s surprised any more that it exists. In some technologically more advanced countries, such as Japan, seeing the person you’re talking to or watching TV on the screen of your mobile phone have become everyday activities. Just a few more years to wait before we, Europeans, will also be trying out all these delights.
You don’t have to be ancient to realise that, until recently, this kind of technology was still the stuff of dreams! Remember the cartoons of the eighties, from Goldorak to Capitain Flam, including Albator and G-Force: video conferencing was everywhere.
That’s how it was in the fifties too, in an era when a home phone was still a luxury and our grandparents dreamed of being able to communicate long distance by sound and image.
They dreamed of it: we did it!

At the Pavilion of Temporary Happiness, you’ll have the opportunity to engrave on a plaque what makes your heart beat faster and your hopes for the future.  All these plaques will be buried in Brussels to be rediscovered in 50 years’ time by our  (great) grandchildren. An opportunity for them to continue the debate taking place today.

In April, een nieuw krasspel Atomium voor € 1,00 van de Nationale Loterij. Krasbiljet is getekend door Philippe Geluck, bekend van Le Chat.

En avril prochain, la Loterie Nationale lancera un nouveau billet à gratter Atomium qui sera vendu au prix de € 1,00. Un billet dessiné par Philippe Geluck connu pour ses BD du Chat.

Ce lundi matin, les premiers 10.000 casiers de bière qui serviront à la construction du pavillon temporaire du Bonheur ont été acheminés par camions entiers au pied de l’Atomium.

Op maandagmorgen, werden de eerste 10.000 bierkratten voor de bouw van het Paviljoen van het Tijdelijke Geluk, geleverd aan de voet van het Atomium gebracht. Ongeveer 33.000 bierkratten, aan elkaar gebonden met 70.000 stukjes plastic, zijn nodig om dit tijdelijke bouwwerk te verwezenlijken. Het zal de belangrijkste tentoonstelling om de 50ste verjaardag van het Atomium te herdenken, herbergen.

Het paviljoen zal gebouwd worden met gewone bierkratten, zoals men die in de supermarkten vindt, die vervolgens weer in hun traditionele gebruikscyclus zullen worden opgenomen. Dat zal zijn opbouw- en afbraaktijd verkorten. Bovendien, is het bierkrat één van de vertegenwoordigers van het dagelijkse gezinsleven.
Met dit universele en herbruikbare bouwprincipe kan dit element – net als de baksteen – de aanzet geven tot tal van architecturale effecten. De verwerking ervan in talrijke bouwmogelijkheden (zuilen, bogen en koepels) werd tot op de spits gedreven. Het resultaat is een kolossale en mysterieuze binnenruimte. 33.000 lege kratten zullen nodig zijn voor de bouw van dit paviljoen.
De opeenstapeling van die kratten en de ruimte die hierdoor geschapen wordt, vormt een scheiding tussen de concrete buitenwereld en de denkbeeldige wereld van een film.
Levering van de laatste kratten op 10 maart en inwijding van het paviljoen op 17 april.

 

 

10.000 beer crates at the feet of the Atomium

On Monday morning, the first 10.000 beer crates which will be used for the construction of the Pavilion of temporary Happiness were delivered at the feet of the Atomium.
Approximately 33.000 interconnected crates by 70.000 stalks of plastic will be needed to realize this ephemeral building intended to shelter the main exhibition of the 50th anniversary of the Atomium.

The pavilion will be built with ordinary beer crates, like the ones you find in hypermarkets. Afterwards, they will be recycled. The use of this material will reduce the time needed for building and dismantling the structure. Furthermore, the beer crate is one of the representatives of everyday consumption.
Using this universal and reusable building principle, this generic element - like brick - will allow numerous architectural effects. The way they are used, in a variety of architectural forms (columns, arches and cupolas), has been pushed to its limit. The result is a huge and enigmatic interior space. According to an initial estimate, nearly 33,000 empty crates will be needed to make this pavilion.
This mass of crates and the space created this way forms a separation between the outside world and the imaginary world of a film.
Arrival of the last crates on March 10th and inauguration of the pavilion on April 17th.

A foretaste in images…

Tijdens dit exclusieve interview dat in één van de bollen werd gefilmd, zal Alex natuurlijk spreken over de muzikale actualiteit van Hooverphonic, maar ook over hun belangstelling voor de fifties, Expo58 en in het bijzonder voor het Atomium. Die belangstelling is ook terug te vinden bij het kiezen van de cd-hoes van het album Blue Wonder Power Milk (Sony) in 1998.

 

Lors de cette interview exclusive filmée dans une des sphères, Alex parlera naturellement de l’actualité musicale de Hooverphonic mais aussi de son intérêt pour les fifties, l’Expo58 et l’Atomium en particulier. Un goût et une dimension de la personnalité du bassiste qui s’était déjà traduits dans le choix de la pochette de l’album Blue Wonder Power Milk (Sony) en 1998.

During this exclusive interview filmed in one of the spheres, Alex will of course speak about the musical activities of Hooverphonic but also about their interests for the fifties, Expo58 and the Atomium in particular. This personal taste of the bass player had already been translated in the choice of the record cover of the album Blue Wonder Power Milk ( Sony) in 1998.

Alex wasn’t only here for the beautiful eye of our camera but especially to shoot, together with Geike, the key singer of the group, their next clip Expedition Impossible (album The president of the LSD golf club, Tracks 2007) in one of the tubes of the Atomium. To be seen on screens from next March 19th.

Besides this shooting, the bass player and the singer of this Belgian band, will be the models of the photo shoot retro'58 which will appear March 1st, in the special fashion edition of the supplement-magazine of the De Morgen, dmmagazine.
