Chaque personne née entre le 17 avril 1958 et le 19 octobre 1958 pourra visiter gratuitement l’Atomium et le Pavillon du Bonheur provisoire le jour de son anniversaire.

Alle personen die geboren zijn tussen 17 april 1958 en 19 oktober 1958 mogen het Atomium en het Paviljoen van het tijdelijke Geluk gratis bezoeken op de dag van hun verjaardag.

Any person born between 17th April 1958 and 19th October 1958 can visit the Atomium and the Pavilion of temporary Happiness for free on the day of their birthday.

Les tickets d’entrée vendus à l’Atomium permettront d’obtenir une visite du Musée de Tervuren à 1 euro seulement.

Met de toegangstickets die worden verkocht in het Atomium, kan men voor slechts 1 euro een bezoek brengen aan het Museum van Tervuren.

Admission tickets sold at the Atomium will mean that a visit to the Tervuren Museum will cost only 1 euro.

  En architecture, le “style 58” est caractérisé par l’abandon des symétries monumentales, le recours à l’oblique et aux courbes, aux murs de verre, aux matériaux lisses et colorés… A travers des dessins, photographies, maquettes, affiches et mobiliers, l’exposition présente des formes architecturales et décoratives significatives de ce « style 58 » en les replaçant au sein de l’actualité de l’époque.

  

   

  Op gebied van architectuur, is de “58-stijl” gekarakteriseerd door het verwerpen van vooroorlogse symmetrieën en het gebruik van schuine en kromme lijnen, glazen wanden, gladde en gekleurde materialen als geëmailleerd Eternit. Grote overspanningen en hyperbolische schelpen doen hun intrede. Aan de hand van tekeningen, foto's, maquettes, affiches en meubilair brengt de tentoonstelling een overzicht van de belangrijke architecturale en decoratieve vormen van deze 58-stijl door ze te plaatsen in het midden van de actualiteit uit die tijd.

  

   

  On 17 April 1958, the first World´s Fair of the post-war period was enthusiastically inaugurated in Brussels: “Expo 58”. Despite the wide variety of the pavilions, the exhibition gives a feeling of belonging to the same epoch. The exhibition seeks to present significant architectural and decorative forms of this “58 style”, characterized by the abandonment of the monumental symmetries of the pre-war years and the use of oblique lines and curves, walls of glass, smooth and colored materials like enameled Eternit as well as marked by the appearance of tensile structures, hyperbolic shells… Drawings, photographs, models, posters and furniture bring to life this rare moment of optimism which sealed the end of the post-war years and the passage to the consumer society.

  Prestigieuses robes du soir griffées de grands couturiers, robes de mariées datées de 1947 à 1959, robes de cocktail, tailleurs, manteaux et accessoires caractéristiques du renouveau qui succéda aux privations des années de guerre, toutes les pièces présentées font partie des collections constituées par le Musée depuis sa création en 1977.

  

   

  Indrukwekkende avondjurken van vermaarde couturiers, trouwjurken van 1947 tot 1959, cocktailjurken, mantelpakjes, mantels en accessoires… De tentoongestelde stukken, die deel uitmaken van de sinds 1977 aangroeiende museumcollectie, illustreren de heropleving na de magere oorlogsjaren.

  

   

  All the exhibits, which belong to the growing museum collection since 1977, illustrate the revival after the poor years of war.

  Atomium & Boulevard du Centenaire / Eeuwfeestlaan

  Chaque année, le Commissariat Provincial de Bruxelles-Capitale et ses 18 sections locales participent activement à la Quinzaine de la Croix-Rouge. La Quinzaine de la Croix-Rouge est l’occasion de faire connaître ce mouvement au grand public, de récolter des fonds, mais permet aussi et surtout aux volontaires d’aller à la rencontre du public et à celle d’autres volontaires et permanents de la Croix-Rouge.

  

   

  Elk jaar neemt het Provinciaal Commissariaat van het Brusselse Hoofdstedelijk Gewest en haar 18 lokale eenheden actief deel aan de 14-daagse van het Rode Kruis. Om het onderhoud en de aankoop van materiaal financieel mogelijk te maken en om de vrijwilligers de gepaste opleiding te geven, zijn er behalve enthousiasme ook financiële middelen nodig. Daarom houdt het Rode Kruis jaarlijks haar veertiendaagse.

  

   

  The Red Cross will organize its yearly event on the Heyzel Plateau and in the Atomium. Objectives of this event:
  - To mobilize volunteers and permanent members.
  - To hire new volunteers.
  - To present all activities of the Red Cross such as youth work.
  - Exchange between volunteers of the different local units and the volunteers and permanent members.
  - A tribute to all old-members of the Red Cross who participated at the Expo 58 (some of them as member of the Red Cross).

  Bruxelles / Brussel

  Des installations sonores et/ou visuelles réparties dans six endroits de la ville, entre autres le Mont des Arts, la Gare Centrale et l’Atomium, vous permettront de respirer l’atmosphère de l’Expo 58. BNA-BBOT et des étudiants de Sint-Lukas ont rassemblé divers matériaux autour de l’Expo, dont des témoignages de Bruxellois.
  Résultat : des lieux remplis d’atmosphère pour revivre les années 50 et l’Expo 58.
  Explorama 58 est une initiative de la Erfgoedcel Bruxelles de la Commission communautaire flamande en collaboration avec BNA-BBOT et la Hogeschool Sint-Lukas Brussel. 

  Op een zestal centrale plaatsen in de stad, waaronder HOB, de Kunstberg en het Atomium, kan je via beeld, geluid en grafische vormgeving de sfeer opsnuiven van Expo 58. BNA-BBOT en studenten van de Hogeschool Sint-Lukas gaan aan de slag met divers materiaal rond Expo ’58, waaronder getuigenissen van Brusselse inwoners.
  Resultaat zijn sfeerplekken waarin je de fifties en de expo ’58 kan herbeleven.
  Explorama ’58 is een project van de erfgoedcel Brussel van de VGC, BNA-BBOT en Hogeschool Sint-Lukas Brussel. De getuigenissen over Expo 58 werden verzameld door BNA-BBOT.

  Erigé avec 33.000 bacs de boisson, selon un principe constructif qui en fait un bâtiment universel et démontable, le Pavillon accueille une exposition/spectacle qui revient sur les grandes expositions et celle de 58 en particulier, sur les idées, les mythes et les rêves qu’elles continuent à véhiculer.

  Pour tous les visiteurs attendus, c’est une invitation à se repérer dans l’histoire, dans «leur» histoire, à se questionner aujourd’hui et à se projeter aussi, dans un avenir «vivable et durable». Photos ici.

  

  Het Paviljoen dat wordt opgetrokken met 33.000 bierkratten, volgens een bouwprincipe dat het omtovert tot een universeel en demonteerbaar gebouw, herbergt een tentoonstelling/show die terugblikt op de grote Wereldtentoonstellingen en de Expo 58 in het bijzonder, op de ideeën, de mythen en de dromen die zij blijven uitdragen.

  Voor alle bezoekers die worden verwacht, is het een uitnodiging om zich een weg te banen in de geschiedenis - in « hun» geschiedenis-, zich hierover vragen te stellen en zich ook te richten op een « leefbare en duurzame» toekomst. Fotos hier.

  

  Built of 33,000 drink crates, using a building principle which makes it a universal and removable building, the Pavilion houses an exhibition/show which retraces the World’s Fairs and that of 1958 more especially, and the ideas, myths and dreams that they continue to promote.

  For all the expected visitors, this is an invitation to them to get their bearings in their own history, ask questions about themselves and thereby project themselves forward into a sustainable future in which it is good to live. Pictures here.

  Archiefdocumenten, zoals de plannen van de Expo 58, voorwerpen uit de fifties, oude films die een beeld schetsen van de bedrijvigheid in de gangen van de Expo, verschillende maquettes, - waaronder die van de Pijl van de Burgerlijke Bouwkunde of die van het infopaviljoen van het Brouckèreplein – dompelen de bezoeker onder in de magie van dit unieke evenement.   Archived documents, such as the plans of the 1958 Expo, typical fifties objects, films of the time showing what was going on in the aisles of the Expo, several scale models including the Civil Engineering Arrow and the Place de Brouckère information centre, transport the visitor back to the world of 58 and the spell of this unique event.   Installation, le long du boulevard du Centenaire, d’une balade photographique composée de plusieurs agrandissements de photos d’archives des anciens pavillons de l’Expo 58 et de photographies d’artistes bruxellois contemporains relatives aux mutations urbanistiques réalisées pour l’Expo 58.

  Een fotowandeling langs de Eeuwfeestlaan, die bestaat uit verschillende vergrote archieffoto’s van de vroegere paviljoenen van de Expo 58 en foto’s van hedendaagse Brusselse kunstenaars over de stedenbouwkundige veranderingen die werden doorgevoerd voor de Expo 58.

  Set up along the length of Boulevard du Centenaire, a photographic stroll composed of several enlargements of archived photos of the pavilions of Expo 58 and those of contemporary Brussels artists on the urban changes made for Expo 58.

  L'association Bruxelles nous appartient / Brussel behoort ons toe (BNA-BBOT) présente “L'expo 58 a changé ma vie”, 10 portraits sonores photographiques de 58'ards. Inspiré par des conversations issues de la base de données sonore de BNA-BBOT, le photographe Fabrice Kada dresse le portrait de personnes qui ont vécu l'Exposition Universelle de 1958: une hôtesse de l'air, deux couples nés pendant l'Expo, des Congolais, un technicien de la première télévision colorée, un barman de la Belgique Joyeuse, etc. Les images actuelles se mêlent aux photographies d'archives et aux extraits sonores.

  

   

  De vereniging Bruxelles nous appartient / Brussel behoort ons toe (BNA-BBOT) stelt “De Expo 58 heeft mijn leven veranderd” voor, 10 portretten in klank en beeld van 58’ers. Fotograaf Fabrice Kada, die inspiratie putte uit gesprekken van de geluidsdatabank van BNA-BBOT, schetst het beeld van mensen die de Wereldtentoonstelling van 1958 hebben meegemaakt: een stewardess, twee koppels die geboren zijn tijdens de Expo, Kongolezen, een technicus van de eerste kleurentelevisie, een barman van Vrolijk België... De actuele beelden worden vermengd met archieffoto’s en geluidsfragmenten.

  

   

  The association “Bruxelles nous appartient / Brussel behoort ons toe (BNA-BBOT) – or Brussels belongs to us is presenting” "Expo 58 changed my life", 10 sound and picture portraits of 58'ers. Taking inspiration from conversations from BNA-BBOT audio database, the photographer Fabrice Kada has made a portrait of people who experienced the 1958 World’s Fair: an air hostess, two couples born during the Expo, Congolese, a technician for the first color television, a barman at “la Belgique Joyeuse”, etc. Current pictures are mixed with archived photographs and audio extracts.

  La Musical Wheel se présente comme une grande peinture générant sa propre bande-son, sa propre musique, particularité: c'est le spectateur qui, en jouant avec les parties mobiles du tableau, est le chef d'orchestre. C'est en effet à lui à se promener dans l'œuvre, à activer ou désactiver les multiples pistes sonores contenues dans ses éléments visuels et à leur donner la coloration qu'il aura choisie.

  

   

  Musical Wheel is een groot schilderij dat zijn eigen soundtrack, zijn eigen muziek voortbrengt. Het bijzondere is dat de toeschouwer, door te spelen met de bewegende delen van het schilderij, zelf de orkestleider is. Al wandelend door het kunstwerk stelt hij namelijk de verschillende geluidsbanden achter de visuele elementen in werking of zet ze stil. Het is aan de toeschouwer om er schakering in te brengen.

  

   

  The Musical Wheel is presented as a large painting which generates its own sound track, its own music, with the particularity of it being the spectator who, by playing with the mobile parts of the picture, is the conductor of the music. In fact it is up to the spectator to walk through the work, activating and deactivating the multiple sound tracks contained within its visual parts, giving them the coloring that they choose.

  Tine Hens (verbonden aan de Faculteit Letteren afdeling Geschiedenis - KULeuven) vertelt het boeiende verhaal achter het cinematografische drieluik op Expo 58: "Confrontatie van de beste films van alle tijden", "Wereldfestival van de film" en "Festival van de Experimentele Film": een triomfboog van verleden, heden en toekomst van de filmkunst. De vraag of en hoe die verouderde stond centraal en was onlosmakelijk verbonden met het toen nog jonge Filmarchief en zijn conservator en bezielers Jacques Ledoux.

  Comme chaque année, la plus grande feria d’Europe hors Espagne proposera ses ambiances folkloriques et culturelles hautes en couleurs ainsi qu’un éventail multiple et varié de gastronomie. Pour l’anniversaire de l’Expo 58, les organisateurs de l’Euroferia mettent en avant les vestiges du pavillon espagnol de l’Expo 58.

  

   

  Naar jaarlijkse gewoonte pakt het grootste volksfeest van Europa buiten Spanje uit met kleurrijke folkloristische en culturele activiteiten, naast een rijke waaier van gastronomische specialiteiten. Voor de verjaardag van de Expo 58 brengen de organisatoren van de Euroferia de overblijfselen van het toenmalige Spaanse paviljoen voor het voetlicht.

  

   

  Like every year, the biggest feria in Europe outside Spain is offering its traditional song and dance atmosphere and colorful culture as well as a wide and varied range of cooking. For the anniversary of Expo 58, the organizers of Euroferia are highlighting what is left of the Spanish pavilion of Expo 58.

Plusieurs stands et activités pour enfants et adultes sont prévus à cette occasion.

  Partant de 1958, nous passons en revue un siècle d'expostions internationales en Belgique: Bruxelles 1910, Gand 1913, Anvers et Liège 1930, Bruxelles 1935 et Bruxelles 1958. Une compilation de matériel tou à fait inédit.

  Expotopia : de Belgische wereldtentoonstellingen in het Filmmuseum.

  Vertrekkend bij 1958 blikken we terug op een eeuw wereldtentoonstellingen in België: Brussel 1910, Gent 1913, Antwerpen en Luik 1930, Brussel 1935 en Brussel 1958. Een compilatie van nooit eerder gezien materiaal.

  Ask4 vous proposera, le temps d’un après-midi et d’une soirée (de 14h à 01h), de vivre une très belle programmation d’artistes ayant fait leurs preuves dans de nombreux festivals, européens ou non. L’animation sur place sera également assurée par la présence de voitures, motos, et vespas d’époque, mais aussi par le biais de nombreux stands, d’ateliers de danse, d’occupations pour les enfants, etc.

  

   

  Ask4 stelt voor om na de middag en ’s avonds (van 14u tot 01u) een bonte mengeling van artiesten te komen ontdekken, die hun sporen reeds verdiend hebben op tal van Europese en niet-Europese festivals. Door de aanwezigheid van auto’s, moto’s en vespa’s uit die tijd, maar ook door tal van stands, dansworkshops, activiteiten voor kinderen, enz. zal er zeker geen gebrek zijn aan animatie.

  

   

  Ask4 is offering, throughout the afternoon and evening (from 2pm to 1am), the enjoyment of a great billing of experienced artists who have appeared in many European and non-European festivals. For added entertainment, there will also be displays of cars, motorbikes and Vespa scooters of the period as well as various stands, dance workshops and activities for children etc.

  Des projets musicaux sur le thème Expo 58 seront proposés dans la programmation globale, notamment le groupe Flat Earth Society (B) qui élabore une présentation de musiques des années 50 retravaillées et modernisées avec un VeeJay qui manipulera des films de l'Expo 58.

  

  Op het programma staan muzikale projecten rond het thema van de Expo 58. Zo brengt de Belgische groep Flat Earth Society muziek uit de jaren ’50 die ze samen met een VeeJay, die films van de Expo 58 zal bewerken, in een nieuw en hedendaags kleedje stopt.

  

  Musical projects linked to the theme of Expo 58 will be proposed in the overall programme, notably the Flat Earth Society (B) who have worked out a presentation of 1950's music re-worked and modernized with a Vee-Jay who will handle films from expo 58.

  Les équipes emmènent un morceau de la Belgique vers La Grande Muraille de Chine. Tous ceux qui possèdent un permis de conduire, une bonne santé et un goût pour l’aventure peuvent s’inscrire pour ce challenge.

  De teams nemen een stukje België mee naar de Chinese Muur. Iedereen die in het bezit is van een rijbewijs, een goede gezondheid en gevoel voor avontuur kan zich voor deze Challenge inschrijven! Zijn de teams in staat om de motor draaiende te houden gedurende de 11.500 kilometers naar Beijing?

  The teams will take a piece of Belgium all the way to the “great wall” in China. Participation is open for anyone with a driver’s license, in good health and with a sense of adventure! Are the teams able to keep their motors running for over more than 11.500 kilometers to Beijing?
